Q&A WITH DR. MICHEL ORTEGA

Why did you choose to work in healthcare?

“Growing up in Mexico City, I became interested in biosciences and medicine when I was in high school. I’ve always had a strong desire to help others, and truly believe that medicine, in particular oncology, has allowed me to do that.”

What is your philosophy around patient care?

“Compassion, knowledge, honesty and respect are the cornerstones to developing a relationship with my patients. It is truly an honor to help patients through their treatment and disease in a personable and proficient way. My mission is to provide personalized, professional, quality care; that is what I pride myself in doing.”

What do you enjoy in your free time?

“I enjoy spending my free time with my husband, Jesse, and our dog, Duke; as well as cooking, walking and watching a good movie. I still have family in Mexico City and try to visit them as much as I can. My husband and I also enjoy hiking, skiing, visiting family in New York, and really just enjoy traveling in general.”

Dr. Michel Ortega is a member of the American Medical Association, American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Hematology and the Madison County Medical Society. She joined The Cancer Center of Huntsville in 2016 and is bilingual in Spanish and English.
