“My name is Britanie Moore and I’ve been with Southern Cancer Center since 2021. I’ve been married since 2016 and we have one child. We always like to go to the beach. We’re big gardeners, we have lots of gardens during the spring and summer. So, we enjoy doing that together. Taking our child out to do things — pretty much anything that he wants to do. Show the world to him and all the new experiences. Especially with Covid, he didn’t get to do a lot the first two years so this past year we’ve really just been trying to cram in as much as possible.
When I was in nursing school, I started as a CNA at Huntsville Hospital on the oncology floor. I never saw myself working in oncology, at the time it was just a job in nursing school, and then I got hired as a nurse to work in oncology. Loved it, couldn’t see myself doing anything else. I got into grad school as a nurse practitioner and I moved to the ICU. I still just felt like the only thing I wanted to know more of was oncology, so when my job ended up here it just felt right.
I always try to make sure I tell every patient, especially their very first visit with us, that we’re here for them. Whether it be the middle of the night or the weekend, that we always have somebody on call who can answer questions for them. I always make sure to tell them ‘hey, if you need anything, call anytime’. It’s better to call than end up in the ER and then things are too late. Just so they really know that we’re not just here Monday through Friday, 8 to 5. It’s a 24/7 care.
It’s always exciting to see a patient end up in remission or get good news, or be successful in whatever treatment they’re in. We see them so much, sometimes patients come here two to three times a week. Sometimes I see them more than I see my family or friends. You route for your family and friends, so when you see them succeed or them get good news it makes you feel good — like it’s your own family.”
