Southern Cancer Center Chosen for 5-Year Medicare Pilot Program
Southern Cancer Center has been chosen as one of a few oncology practices across the nation to participate in a 5-year Medicare pilot program called the Oncology Care Model (OCM), aimed at improving the effectiveness and efficiency of specialty care, to begin on July 1st.
This new payment and delivery model was designed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and is specific to oncology practices administering chemotherapy treatments. The goal of the Oncology Care Model is to provide higher quality, more highly coordinated oncology care at the same or lower cost to Medicare.
Practices, like Southern Cancer Center, will be evaluated and surveyed for financial and performance based care to patients receiving chemotherapy through categories such as care coordination, navigation and overall treatment experience.
Southern Cancer Center is honored to be chosen for this pilot program and believes this is a positive step in our healthcare system in providing patients excellent care without high costs. After all, Southern Cancer Center has already been following these ideas within our own practice for many years.
The physicians and employees of Southern Cancer Center are dedicated to finding and providing the best care and treatment options for our patients in the communities we serve. We approach caring for our patients as a team. Taking care of oncology patients is our life’s work and our passion.
