“Hi, my name is Wendy Clarke. I’m a nurse practitioner with Southern Cancer Center. I’m a breast oncology advanced practice provider.

We have been married for 21 years and I’ve been blessed with three beautiful children. I have a dog, and I’ve recently adopted a new hobby – I’m raising chickens. My time is best spent with my family. My husband and I both love the water, so he’ll fish and I’m probably in his way.

I knew I wanted to be in oncology. My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008, and I can remember the staff taking care of her. I remember the physician; I remember the nurse practitioner. I knew that I could be for them what someone had been for my mom at that time. She’s been breast cancer free since, and I’m happy to have her for another year.

When a patient meets me, they can expect honesty related to the treatment plan that we have for them, the journey, what I expect to see. Because I work so closely with all the providers, especially the other nurse practitioners and the relationship that we have, if I don’t know the answer, I will definitely work to get an answer for you. All the things that we want to do to make sure that they have a pleasant experience here with us. Whatever the journey, they won’t take it alone.

Just being a part of a cohesive team that’s going to do what it takes to get the job done, to make sure every aspect of that patient’s care is met; and that’s what I found at Southern Cancer Center. I don’t have to choose whether I want to be an educator or whether I want to be a provider or want to be a nurse, I can do it all. That’s my joy and that’s my love as a provider. I found it all at Southern Cancer Center.”
