“I’m Michelle Sanford. I’m a nurse practitioner at Southern Cancer Center. I’ve been here since 2013.

I have two girls that are adults now and they’re wonderful girls. They’re both successful, compassionate and caring women. I couldn’t be more proud of them. They both live in Louisiana. One is in engineering and the other one is in medical school at Tulane.

We have a very stressful job sometimes and we have to make sure that we’re taking care of ourselves, so I like to do art. I have an antique booth and I like to rehab old furniture and make ugly things look good again, look new again. I think that helps to keep me going.

On Saturdays, I like to kind of rejuvenate and get my energy back. So my favorite thing to do is go to yoga class, helps kinda reset my energy. I love to go down to Fairhope, do my yoga class, go walk around, go shop at the antique shops, go to the coffee shops and just kinda regain my energy for the rest of the week. And then on Sundays I attend church and catch up with my chores and that kind of thing.

We are all passionate about cancer care and our patients. I cannot say that you would get that everywhere. We have an excellent clinical research program for patients that are interested in that. You can get the most up-to-date care without having to travel out of state, which could be quite a burden. And we also have our genetics program that’s not available at other places.

And more importantly, we’re really tuned in to what is the most up-to-date care. A patient needs a provider that is gonna stay mindful of what’s the most up-to-date treatment plan and what do we need to be testing for and what are the new options out there that are available. And I can say that each provider that’s a passion for them.”
