Southern Cancer Center is pleased to welcome Dr. Jeff Caughran to our oncology team. Dr. Jeff Caughran is a board-certified medical oncologist with a strong background in internal medicine and oncology. He brings a compassionate, patient-centered approach to cancer care, along with a commitment to clinical excellence and innovation. With experience in both hospitalist and outpatient oncology settings, Dr. Caughran has served in roles ranging from hospitalist at CHI Memorial in Chattanooga to Radiation Clinic Supervisor at the Cancer Care Center in Dyersburg, TN. He is board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology.

“I grew up around the field of medicine, and while I explored other paths, I kept getting pulled back to it. I was drawn to oncology early in medical school, as there was constantly new and different information to learn,” Dr. Caughran said. “The field of oncology has really exploded in the last few years. Newer, better treatments that were dreams a few years ago are now reality. The fact that we are using medicines to train our own immune system to fight certain types of cancer is absolutely amazing.”

Beginning in August, Dr. Caughran will see patients at Southern Cancer Center’s clinic located on the campus of Springhill Medical Center. He treats all types of cancer, but has a particular interest in lung, breast, colon, and melanoma. Dr. Caughran’s patient care philosophy of care is rooted in empathy and partnership.

“When we see patients as oncologists, we’re often meeting them on what feels like the worst day of their lives,” he explained. “Our job is not only to make the best medical decisions, but to walk down this road with them as a partner in their care.” When asked why he chose to join Southern Cancer Center, Dr. Caughran’s answer was simple: “Two words: the people.” He added, “The physicians here at SCC made me feel at home. It felt like I was joining a family of great cancer doctors, rather than just another medical group.”

Now calling the Gulf Coast home, Dr. Caughran is excited to build lasting relationships with patients and colleagues alike. He and his wife Casey have been married since 2005 and share a love for rescuing dogs. They currently dote on their beloved (and delightfully chaotic) pup, Bey. In his free time, Dr. Caughran enjoys cooking and is looking forward to exploring all that coastal life has to offer, especially getting out on the ocean.
