Bread Bite You Need Only to be Still

Southern Cancer Center’s “Bread Bite” series shares weekly words of encouragement and inspiration from area churches. This week’s message is from Pastor Daniel Blaylock of Forest Hill Church of God in Mobile, Alabama.

Pastor Daniel-

Today’s verse of the day comes from Exodus 14:14. “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

Over and over, the Bible urges us away from worry. If you can do something about a problem, then do something about it. If you cannot do anything about it, then pray about it. But whatever you do, don’t worry about it.

Not only does Jesus command us not to worry; He also gives us the most beautiful reason why we don’t have to live in perpetual anxiety about the “what ifs” of life. We need not waste our time and energy worrying because… WE ARE LOVED BY GOD! Hear the words of Jesus Himself: “So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (Matthew 6:31-33).

People who don’t know they have a heavenly Father have cause to worry. We who know the love of our Heavenly Father does not. So do what you can pray about what you cannot, and then “be still” because “the LORD will fight for you!”
