Graphic with text: 'Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Psalms 27:14'

Southern Cancer Center’s “Bread Bite” series shares weekly words of encouragement and inspiration from area churches. This week’s message is from Pastor Daniel Blaylock of Forest Hill Church of God in Mobile, Alabama.

Pastor Daniel-

“Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.” Psalms 27:14 NLT

Does anyone else hate to wait? If we’re honest, we’re not patient people. Someone has said that we’re microwave Christians serving a crockpot God.

Recently I was reminded by my friends in Celebrate Recovery of the Serenity Prayer. It opens with, “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”

Perhaps one of the best disciplines to help us while we wait is to figure out what we can and cannot change. Don’t ask God to do what He’s placed in your power to do. Don’t waste time and energy addressing what you’re powerless to change; those are the things we pray about. May God grant you wisdom today to get the balance right!
