Freely Give

Southern Cancer Center’s “Bread Bite” series gives weekly words of inspiration through our social media pages. This week’s message is from Pastor Daniel Blaylock of Forest Hill Church of God in Mobile, AL.

Pastor Daniel-
Have you ever received a gift that required a great deal from you? Some gifts require hours of assembly, extra storage space, the purchase of special tools or the learning new skills to use effectively. At Christmas we’re reminded that God’s gifts TO us often require something OF us.

“Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.” Matthew 10:8

When we’ve been blessed by someone, we often talk about “paying it forward”. It seems to me that concept started with Jesus. “Freely you have received; freely give.” St. Paul says something similar in 2 Corinthians 1:4, “He comforts us when we are in trouble, so that we can share that same comfort with others in trouble.”

So let me encourage you to do some spiritual “re-gifting” this season. Take the hope, peace, joy and love you’ve received this Christmas and share it with someone today who could use a little of it. That’s the least the God who has so richly blessed us expects from us who have received His gracious gifts. “Freely you have received; freely give.”
